Apple is working on allowing iPhones to be used as POS terminals
According to a recent Reuters story, Apple is looking to launch an innovative service that will enable businesses to make use of iPhones to serve as POS (point of sale) terminals with no additional hardware needed. The change is expected to be implemented through a software update over the coming months . This will permit customers to pay with NFC directly through their contactless credit or debit card, iPhone and Apple Watch Bands on an additional iPhone.
It is yet to be determined whether this new feature will be included in Apple Pay of if Cupertino will collaborate with existing payment service providers. Apple permits merchants to utilize an iPhone and iPad as an POS station by attaching hardware such as Block Inc’s Square readers , which connect to the device.
The latest move would permit iPhones to be used like Software POS (Soft POS) that is available on Android devices with a range of third-party applications that support various payment options, including Apple’s Apple Pay along with Google Pay, Samsung Pay banks, bank cards, as well as NFC wearables.
